A Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday visited Eritrea, the strategic nation in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa, to discuss bilateral relations.
During the official visit the Russian delegation has met with President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea, according to the information Ministry of Eritrea. “President Isaias Afwerki received at State House today Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The discussions centered on the dynamics of the war in Ukraine and enhancement of bilateral ties on sectors of energy, mining, information technology. education and health,” Yemane Yemane G. Meskel, Eritrean Information Minister, twitted on Thursday.
Following the war in Ukraine with Russia, the later has been facing criticism for unlawfully invading its neighbor. In his recent comment during his visit to another African country, Mozambique, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has reportedly said that the U.S. has been putting pressure on developing countries to isolate Russia.
Likewise in recent weeks some Western media and politicians have also been trying to portray Eritrea, a very strategic nation in the Red Sea which has not been in good terms with the world supper power -the United States, as a threat for the peace and stability of the region.
