TotalEnergies announces winners of Ethiopia's Startupper of the Year

Following the selection of Ethiopia’s Startupper of the Year Challenge winners by a local jury comprised of experts, the winners of the 2022 edition were awarded during an official award ceremony organised on May 11, 2022 at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Addis Ababa.

The three winners of the Startupper of the Year Challenge in Ethiopia are:
– Natnael Alemayehu for the Award for Best Startup under 3 years old with Haleta Tutors: Haleta Tutors is the leading tutorial service provider in Ethiopia with a website where parents can search among 400+ top tutors who are dedicated to helping students excel in their academics.



– Hoheyat Berhanu for the Award for Best Business Creation Idea with Husky Energy and Technologies: A renewable energy startup trying to solve energy poverty, waste problem & indoor pollution. Upscale coffee-waste to be a source of energy which shall be used in our smokeless stove that combats indoor pollution. Plan to sell pellets & briquettes as primary products while gasifier stoves, fast-food pushcarts & biomass electric generators are our secondary products that create sustainable demand.

– Mihiret Redi for the Award for Best Female Entrepreneur with Dynamo Center for Technology: A Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and research center in Southwest Ethiopia, primarily focuses on promoting young generation through giving short term practical based trainings using its own local language-based digital teaching devices to deliver science education in an easy & artistic way based on the student’s age & knowledge

These young entrepreneurs will receive financial support amounting to 370,000 ETB. They will also benefit from personalised coaching for the development of their project as well as from increased visibility to make them known.

In Ethiopia, 888 applications were submitted, of which 355 were complete, and 15 finalists
were able to pitch their project before the local jury.
Each winner of this edition will have their project presented in front of a “Grand Jury” in charge
of choosing, in mid-May, the three “Grand Winners” of the African continent amongst the 32
countries.
